The Jersey Chamber Weekly Update
Dear Subscriber,
A million years ago when I started at the BBC, we had a large group of journalists who wrote news stories. There was also a wonderful fella called Alan Phillips, who would simply say, right I'm going into town to find a story. Off he'd pop, and by lunch time he'd return with news stories to be written up and ideas for future reports. All because he'd stop, chat, pop in on a few contacts… it was proper newshound stuff.
I've always been amazed at how much business gets done on the streets of St Helier. For anyone with time constraints it can be frustrating, but in true Jersey fashion, the amount of impromptu conversations that result in the next stage of a meeting, or act as a reminder of some action to take is quite impressive.
The same happens at every Chamber lunch. Networking is often an undervalued term, but you know it's working when the entire room is so deep in conversation that you can't get them to sit down and eat the lunch that the hotel chef is now fretting over.
Fortunately, we have two excellent networking opportunities left this year. On November 6th, at the Radisson, we'll hear from the Comptroller and Auditor General ('C&AG'). If you've ever wondered who keeps monitors whether we are getting value from our public services, wonder no more. This promises to be an interesting event.
Then on December 4th, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the Chamber Christmas lunch, maybe with colleagues or clients, at the Royal Yacht. A seasonal offering with a satirical look back at 2024 is an event not to be missed. The links for both events are below, along with the link to our new jobs page… and if you have vacancies drop us an email and we'll include yours for free!
Enjoy the weekend
