The Jersey Chamber Weekly Update
Dear Subscriber,
Sometimes there is more behind the story than the column inches given and I'm still baffled why it sits under a 'Bad Week' when it was another highly successful sell out event. |
|
Firstly, whilst appreciated the empathetic tone of Tom Innes' comments, there was nothing noble of me stepping up to host the Chamber lunch, I've host every one for seven years (excluding two where my dear friends Gary Burgess and latterly Jess Dunson covered for me), so I'm fairly used to it and have hosted many hundreds of events in the last 46 years. My first rodeo it is not cowboy.
As for the banter, from the Chief look Minister, well that is a spot of mild teasing. Oddly I have commentated on a Muratti and Siam Cup, and been the pitch-side reporter for many of both too, but the 1905 one is even beyond my advancing years.
The aircraft registry is one that occasionally comes up. The moment that Guernsey went their own way, leaving Jersey clutching an out of date CI registry agreement was in 2013. Alan MacLean was the ED Minister and I wasn't even elected as a Deputy until 2014. Clearly once elected a year later and then as an ED Assistant Minister, my ED Minister, (one Senator Lyndon Farnham) having been successfully embalmed in Teflon, did wisely and speedily pass on that empty vessel of responsibility to me. Ah! but hey, best not let the facts get in the way of a good story.
Actually, as the host and interviewer at this Chamber lunch with two master deflectors in the hot seats, probably even better advice would be - Don't become the story!
Have a good weekend.
Murray,
