The Jersey Chamber Weekly Update
Dear Subscriber,
Making waves
With the first real glimpses of the beach (people were actually swimming in the sea!) and some sunshine tunes ringing in my ears, the various waves of the week have washed over me as we head to the weekend.
Having made some splashes when speaking at the IoD debate last week, this week the Jersey shore has seen the waves of optimism rolled in at the Chamber lunch, as we gleefully took in the vision and opportunities that a regenerated Waterfront and Fort might present us with.
And although we need to find the funding, our Chief Minister said in front of 235 guests, that 'we are going to make this happen'. Given the new hospital on top of this, plus a fresh new harbour and airport, and then the exciting prospect of Strive developing with plans for a hotel and amazing facilities, the Opera House opening and maybe a wind farm out at sea it looks like Jersey is waving goodbye to negativity.
It will of course be a long road where we'll need more than finances. We'll need a whole lot of construction skills. It's probably a good time to be changing work permit rules, maybe funding apprenticeship schemes and increasing construction courses at our college too!
We know stuff is going to happen, we just need to catch the right waves and stay on the board.
