The Jersey Chamber Weekly Update
Dear Subscriber,
Captain's Log… Star date 2024 minus 2 months overdue…As I write this genuinely I am on the Voyager and planet Ferry where two coffees and two packets of crisps just cost me £9.80! The captain just said the sun is out, the sky is blue… had he moved onto 'there's not a cloud to spoil the view…' I was certain he was about to do his best Buddy Holly impression and say '…but it's raining, raining in my heart'.
The Thrusters have been full on, in the new expedition into a short and sharp tender process on Warp Factor 9, where everyone is now twitchy. Chamber has boldly gone to explore the far reaches of the ferry galaxy with meetings with both enterprises involved and with the Ministers and officers in planet Government.
Right now it's quiet and I suspect it's the calm before the meteor shower of the announcement. Expect some space turbulence either way. In some ways whoever we get the possibility is it will be an improved service with Condor as Brittany Ferries appearing more vested in the operation than previously and DFDS will be the new kids on the block, so naturally would be keen to show well.
But then are there any winners? DFDS are potentially running to one island, the Brittany rebranding of Condor Ferries will be potentially only running to one (smaller) island. Would a CI operation have been better? It's as logical as Spock! Government, whatever the do and choose will hardly come out of this smelling of anything other that sun-dried seaweed and the business community and potential customers can only hope that belated schedules don't do anymore harm the they have.
Captain Lyndon Kirk, Kirsten Spock and Scotty Scate, minus Zulu Corrigan who pressed a button at the wrong time, will have a post-budget week where their Phasers will be set on stun and the moaning Klingons will all have a say again.
It's the weekend, Beam me up Scotty
