The Jersey Chamber Weekly Update
Dear Subscriber,
A we reach the weekend I can feel a small whisper of optimism in and amongst some areas of disappointment.
The Chamber lunch on Wednesday was certainly one where the majority of those that left, did so with a spring in their step and hope for a new ferry fleet fit for the future with new vessels in the pipeline and a ferry company that is impressive in size and experience. On Thursday the roll-out of the Better Business Support Package was discussed to another packed room, and yet again the good new of 50% funding to improve businesses big and small was greeted by many as business owners and suppliers to business. This outbreak of happiness just has to stop now, it's just not on!
But just as the March weather can bring all four seasons in one so, bad news can also add to that – and the loss of the Battle of Flowers is something that has landed today. Sad for the communities of float builders and the plans they will have already made, disappointing for those that would have travelled over with Battle as their holiday highlight and for the many businesses looking forward to this business uplift. It'll be a disappointment too for the Government, who sank further investment in into last year, that should have spurred on the event.
My hope is that it will rise again, with some smaller inter-parish events to fill the void this year. We need to bring commercial savvy and pragmatic cost solutions to the table, and rethink what Battle is, if it's to return.
Just a quick reminder that tickets for the next two lunches are selling very quickly. Details are below.
Have a great weekend.
Murray,

New Healthcare Facilities Programme Upcoming Workshops |
| |
As work on the New Healthcare Facilities Programme (NHFP) progresses, further opportunities, including the Development Works at Overdale, will soon be available for tender, with contracts covering both physical and design works. These will be procured under the New Engineering Contract (NEC) suite of documents, so understanding NEC principles is essential for suppliers and contractors looking to participate in upcoming Programme opportunities. This form of contract has been selected by Government of Jersey since it has helpful mechanisms to promote good project and contract management. It will also be the form of contract for the Main Works Delivery Partner. To support contractors and advisors with this process, these sessions therefore provide a more informal introduction to NEC forms of contract, especially from a contractor/provider perspective, the basic structure, terminology, and other guidance. There is a maximum of 50 places available at each session.

THIS YEAR CHAMBER IS SUPPORTING KEZIA'S FUND |
|
|
|
As Chamber members are aware we currently supporting Kezia's Fund.
Kezia's Fund was set up to support initiatives promoting good mental health amongst children and young people in Jersey. It provides grants and support to organisations that are working to address the issue of rising rates of poor mental health.
One of the primary fundraising events for this fund is Run for Kezia, an event which attracted 800 participants last year to run or walk over the choice of 3 distances (2k, 5k, 10k). The event is being held to coincide, again, with World Suicide Prevention Day on 15 September.
We would like to encourage all members to consider signing up (it is not competitive, timed and it is not necessary to run) and to encourage their families, friends and colleagues to sign up too: Kezia's Fund
Thank you |
