The Jersey Chamber Weekly Update
Dear Subscriber,
A week of some change, as the States debated and at the third attempt in this political term of turbulence, passed that Senators should make a comeback with nine senatorial positions set to replace nine deputies.
This may well answer some to the critics who complained at the lack of voting options and who knows, it just might raise the appalling turnout levels of voting in Jersey.
Deputy Elain Millars' proposition after 13 hours of debate, will come in time for the 2026 elections and that is big news. Although some on the Privileges and Procedure Committee have their doubts that the work to prepare for this change can be done in a year. I guess we are always going to refer to the Nightingale Hospital being built in 25 days aren't we. And the sparks continue to fly across the small stretch of water between Jersey and Guernsey. Despite the efforts of both side to claim they want to move on, neither wishes to do so without having the last word… and so it continues!

Never mind back off, the strongly worded letter from Lyndon T to Lyndon F, clearly shows Mr T being Teed Off. I'm just wondering if Mr F is F'd Off with this back and forth.
''Ner-nana-nerr-nerrr, our boats are better than yours…''
Anyway, on May 21st both Chief Ministers will share the stage at the Chamber Lunch at the Radisson Hotel. Whether we'll need microphones, stools, or a boxing ring remains to be seen, but I'm confident these savvy individuals will maintain their friendship, and so should our islands.
There are just 50 tickets left for that lunch btw!
And on that feisty, but bouncy note,
Have a happy weekend.

THIS YEAR CHAMBER IS SUPPORTING KEZIA'S FUND |
|
|
|
As Chamber members are aware we currently supporting Kezia's Fund.
Kezia's Fund was set up to support initiatives promoting good mental health amongst children and young people in Jersey. It provides grants and support to organisations that are working to address the issue of rising rates of poor mental health.
One of the primary fundraising events for this fund is Run for Kezia, an event which attracted 800 participants last year to run or walk over the choice of 3 distances (2k, 5k, 10k). The event is being held to coincide, again, with World Suicide Prevention Day on 15 September.
We would like to encourage all members to consider signing up (it is not competitive, timed and it is not necessary to run) and to encourage their families, friends and colleagues to sign up too: Kezia's Fund
Thank you |
