The Jersey Chamber Weekly Update
Dear Subscriber,
Jersey Chamber of Commerce is the sum of its parts – a dynamic mix of businesses of all sizes, across all sectors, each facing its own unique challenges. In the short term, we’re here to represent their immediate needs, tackling pressing issues and making sure their voices are heard where it matters most.
But we're also looking ahead, shaping policies and championing a thriving business environment that benefits everyone in the long run. Whether it's today's hurdles or tomorrow's opportunities, Chamber is here for every business in our diverse economy.
This is something we in the office are used to, but only when I stand back and reflect, do I see the various areas we are simultaneously involved in.
The 'small things' are not really small to those with that issue at that time and will often be taking much of waking and sleeping head space of those running that business. Which is why if we try to focus on resolving it, when we can, by connecting the right people from within our networks.
This week several of these have found their way to my inbox. Fortunately, it's Friday, and most have been resolved, often by other members or the quick reactive work of someone in a govt department (yes, I did actually say that!) and somewhere there are some happier and dare I say more productive people. In that process, this week, Chamber has added new members, who saw the immediate values and some others who were pleasantly reminded why they were members. Sometimes it is a unified network.
In the big stuff box, Chamber and IoD have been scoping the future and although we are two separate business organisations, in looking ahead at 2025, 2026 and beyond, we and those in government agree that we should combine our thinking for the greater goal – the future economy of Jersey.
Plenty of conversations to be had yet, but this longer-term work is fascinating and will hopefully provide policymakers with some food for thought, from those who provide the economy. Like the short-term challenges, I, nor my colleagues at the IoD do not claim to know the answers, but we have a good idea who might have some helpful thoughts.
A busy week ahead for Chamber, with the Chamber lunch with DFDS next Wednesday, sponsored by Royal Bank of Canada, already breaking the record for the busiest Chamber lunch ever. Sorry if you didn’t get a ticket.
On Thursday 13th March we have a Breakfast Briefing on the impending business support packages and last I looked we had about 10 tickets left, so be quick.
Finally, welcome to some new members to the collective force of Chamber.
