The Jersey Chamber Weekly Update
Dear Subscriber,
Jumpers for goalposts…
It's been a long and painful road, but this week a decision was made. And?? Well, that's it really. And - like picking your team in the playground from the line up in front of you - that's all well and good, but the match hasn't even started yet. How well we play is yet to be decided and we've not even discussed all the rules. Is it only played below head height, is it three and in and do only volleys and headers count? Clearly, I had that kind of childhood.
Routes, schedules, vessels, and prices are the bits we do not know. Clearly the promises made in the tender process need to now be put into an agreement which might be a whole new ball game.
To speak seriously for a moment (and for those who attended the Chamber Christmas Lunch, I can do this from time to time), Chamber sends its congratulations to DFDS and we have already had meetings and discussions with some of our Chamber members who are interested stakeholders in the ferry operations.
We also must rightly look at the other side of the tender process, where our thoughts are with Condor/Brittany Ferries. For their senior team and all of their staff this will be a challenging time, as they manage the hopefully smooth transition of the Jersey service over the next three months. We should all acknowledge the many, many years of service they have provided to the island.
Anyway, in my nostalgic mind, using the last goal rule, the score is 30-29, I am covered in mud and Mum has called me in for early tea. And as it is my ball, the game is over for the week.
Have a wonderful weekend

THIS YEAR CHAMBER IS SUPPORTING KEZIA'S FUND |
|
|
|
As Chamber members are aware we currently supporting Kezia's Fund.
Kezia's Fund was set up to support initiatives promoting good mental health amongst children and young people in Jersey. It provides grants and support to organisations that are working to address the issue of rising rates of poor mental health.
One of the primary fundraising events for this fund is Run for Kezia, an event which attracted 800 participants last year to run or walk over the choice of 3 distances (2k, 5k, 10k). The event is being held to coincide, again, with World Suicide Prevention Day on 15 September.
We would like to encourage all members to consider signing up (it is not competitive, timed and it is not necessary to run) and to encourage their families, friends and colleagues to sign up too: Kezia's Fund
Thank you |
